Troutbeck View - The Local Area

The lodge nestles in the tranquil Troutbeck Valley on the old drovers' route up the Kirkstone Pass. It is a tranquil area steeped in history that goes back as far as Roman times. The northerly path along the valley is called High Street and is an old Roman road that was used by the legionaries when this was one of the furthest outposts of their empire.

More recently the valley was the home of Beatrix Potter who kept Herdwick sheep near Troutbeck Tongue. Troutbeck village is a string of hamlets that cling to the western edge of the valley and is made up of a variety of traditional Cumbrian cottages, a post office and two deservedly famous pubs - The Queen's Head and The Mortal Man.

Jesus Church in Troutbeck is a particularly beautiful spot and the display of daffodils in early Spring is reknowned. It can be found 200 yards from the park entrance and features an East window that was the work of Sir Edward Burne-Jones and was made by William Morris & Co.

A little further afield (about a two mile walk) is the hidden gem that is Holehird Gardens

Surprisingly for a place of such natural beauty Limefitt Park is not at all remote. Limefitt Park is situated only 3.5 miles from Windermere and just under 4 miles from Ambleside, so you have a huge variety of shops and restaurants available to you.
